Osamu Tezuka began his career as a mangaka when he was 17 and in the midst of college. His first professional work was a comic strip named "Diary of Ma-Chan", which was about a preschool boy growing up after WW2 and had 72 strips in total.
However Tezuka soon moved on to bigger projects, as after he created the hit success "New Treasure Island", he made "Kimba The White Lion in 1950. However, later controversies arose over Disney's Lion King in 1994, as the two properties were so similar many people wondered if Disney had ripped off Tezuka.
Soon after Kimba, Tezuka created his biggest hit yet; "Astro Boy". This series was especially popular among younger boys, as it was about a robot boy who fought aliens and supervillains in outer space.
After Astro Boy's success, Tezuka worked on many other very successful mangas like "Blackjack" and "Buddha" during the rest of his lifetime.
